Pottery Workshop: Slab-built Chicken / Bird Vessels
Join us for a fun and imaginative pottery workshop where we’ll use slab-building techniques to create whimsical and functional chicken and bird vessels! This class is perfect for both beginners and those with some experience in pottery, offering a chance to explore the versatility of clay while bringing your favorite feathered friends to life.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to roll, cut, and assemble clay slabs to form the body and features of charming chicken or bird-inspired vessels. Whether you want to create a whimsical chicken bowl, a bird-shaped planter, or a more abstract avian design, you’ll have the creative freedom to shape and personalize your piece to reflect your style.
Throughout the class, we’ll cover:
- Basic slab-building techniques, including rolling and cutting clay to create your vessel’s structure
- Shaping and assembling the pieces to form your bird or chicken, adding features like wings, beaks, and feathers
- Techniques for adding texture and details to bring your piece to life, from realistic features to playful, stylized touches
- Glazing methods to enhance your piece, adding color and shine to complete your bird vessel
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a unique, handmade bird or chicken vessel—whether for holding plants, serving food, or simply as a quirky piece of art. It’s a perfect opportunity to connect with nature, unleash your creativity, and create something functional and beautiful.
- Workshop will last approximately 2 hours
